An American in Korea...

Le week-end est la!

My first week (or three days) of work has been a success. I really like my job and it’s all coming together quickly. And to add onto that, we just got out of work early because of tornado and hail warnings… I think there might have been a bit of overreaction, but we all went with it. And I am moving to a temporary apartment for the summer where I can actually walk to work in only 10 minutes or so. Happy Friday!

The view from the front doors of the building my office is in. This picture really doesn’t do it justice. First day of work went very well, but was an information overload. Looking forward to tomorrow!

Washtonian~~~

I drove down to DC yesterday from my friend’s wedding in upstate New York.  I am now officially a Washtonian, and I start work tomorrow.  And not just any work, but a real job that will hopefully turn into my career, with all sorts of great benefits and the like.  Thankfully this is all happening a couple months before my 30th birthday, so I can feel all grown up and shit when the big 3-0 comes ;) All I  need now is a place to live. At least I have a few offers of places to crash for a couple weeks to get something figured out.

  And I’m off…

And I’m off~~~

So, I left my hometown yesterday and I’m slowly working my way to DC.  The past three days have been nothing short of hectic.  My job’s start date is next Wednesday, which is fine, but I also have a wedding to go to in upstate New York this weekend, and I had tickets booked this morning from Portland to upstate NY. From finding out Tuesday night that I got the job, and then having to pack not only for the wedding but also for the move all in two days was crazy.  Last night I found out that my flight this morning was cancelled because the plane couldn’t arrive, so I just cancelled my tickets (which they gave me a full refund for) and this morning I’m now driving to upstate NY, and then will continue straight to DC on Monday.  Originally, I was going to fly back to Maine on Monday and then turn around and leave early Tuesday to drive down to DC.  So, I’m guessing it all worked out for the better this way.

Now the main goal of mine is to find housing, but I have an initial place to crash for a week or so when I get to Washington, but I obviously need something more permanent.  I’m looking into summer sublets or something similar to that, and then I can figure out something more permanent. DC is EXPENSIVE though for living.  I knew that to begin with, but WOWOWOWOW.

Anyways… I’m off. This wedding weekend should be a blast. A bunch of my good friends that I worked with in Africa all rented a cottage on a lake together. I’ve seen most of them over the past few years, but some I haven’t seen since before I went to Korea.

  Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

Employed!

I just found out that I got the job I went to interview for in DC last week.  I am pumped! This job is exactly the type of opportunity that I left Korea in hopes of finding, and I knew it would come with enough persistence and patience. I’ll be working in international non-profit development based out of DC. The organization works in eastern Europe and Africa, and they’re about to start working in Southeast Asia….and my office is two blocks from the White House.

Finally, a job that I really want to do, and in the field that I want to build my career in.  Assahhhhh^^

Washington take two~~~

Well, I’m in the airport on my way to DC again. My tickets were issued yesterday morning and the last 24 hours have been kind of hectic, but I made it to the airport in Boston. I have a good feeling about this interview, so fingers crossed. I also got upgraded to first class, so happy Tuesday to me.

Meeting up with friends that I worked with in Africa after my interview tomorrow. We were supposed to meet last month when I was there, but because my trip was cut short I wasn’t able to. It should be a good time!

just don’t be tempted to come back to Korea! lol, that’s just a step backwards!

Believe me, I’ve thought about this many times out of ease, but I won’t be returning. As easy as it would be to do so, I know it’d be a huge step back, and a waste of thousands of dollars spent and then going back to square one in another year… This boy is stateside for a while, even though I miss all the eye candy, extensive vacations…and my boyfriend^^

And it continues…

Well yesterday turned out to be a fantastic day… The job I went to DC to interview for about a month ago finally responded and I didn’t get it, and then a job I had interviewed for in Portland that I really wanted as well got back to me and I didn’t get that one either. Both of them called to let me know and said it was really close, but that the hired person for both jobs had a little bit more experience in the respective fields and they had to go with them. I’ve had other interviews that I haven’t mentioned here, some good and some bad, but I had really wanted both of these jobs.  C’est la vie.  Been emailing daily with another job in DC trying to figure out when to get down there next week, so hopefully we can finalize that today.

My happily unemployed attitude from nearly four months ago has turned into a terribly bored and frustrated attitude of today. Ha. Something will come along soon, I feel it…

Negative rant over. When this never-ending rain stops my negativity will turn to positivity.
